2010 International Consensus Conference on Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma - OLT4HCC

On December 2-4, 2010, the E-AHPBA along with the key liver societies of the world (AASLD, ASTS, EASL, ELITA, IHPBA, ILCA, ILTS, LGID and TTS) organized the 2010 International Consensus Conference on Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) which was held at the University Hospital of Zurich.

This event was a great success attracting over 300 liver specialists from all around the world.

This Consensus Conference followed the concept of the Danish model. For 18 months preceding the conference, a variety of topics were extensively discussed and reviewed by working groups of experts, comprising surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, patient associations, health insurances, statisticians, and ethicists. A Jury of non-specialists also assessed, well in advance, any controversial developments regarding expert insights. The jury was responsible to produce statements in a independent manner. The three days of the conference in Zurich were dedicated to discussion between the experts, the Jury and the public.

As a proof of this outstanding success, the international recommendations resulting from this Consensus Conference were published in Lancet Oncology (Lancet Oncol. 2011 Oct 31). Meanwhile the texts from the experts were brought together in a special issue of Liver Transplantation (Liver Transpl. 2011 Oct;17 Suppl 2).

The Conference was granted 15 CME credits by the UEMS and 16 CME credits by the Swiss Society of Surgery.

The E-AHPBA looks forward for other fruitful collaborations in the future.
